Name: P1 App Marketplace / Content Management Platform

Description:

• Problem: An abundance of application development efforts across the DoD makes it challenging to find existing projects that meet local unit requirements. Whether seeking to contribute or simply consume, interested parties are usually best served by canvasing public forums to see if anyone knows about something they are looking for. This method is lacking, however, because there is no guarantee your post will be seen by the right people and is heavily reliant on the interaction of others.

• Opportunity: With app development consolidating towards Platform One, we might be able to manage the large amount of content with fewer policy and technical changes than was needed before. Furthermore, there are already platforms associated with P1 that might be able to fulfill this need with relatively minimal modifications (MOTAR and Avolve).

• Proposal: We decide on / build a platform that serves as the app marketplace for P1. Involved in the long term implementation are:

  • Friendly user interface accessible via the web
  • Listing of all applications and state of development
  • Group of applications based on tags / teams
  • Links to publicly accessible sites / apps, or registration forms
  • Communication channels to reach the development team
  • Social media components for community building (e.g. links to Mattermost channels, chat wall, team updates, links to confluence, FAQ)

• App Team Management Pipeline (e.g. how to edit their page, who can edit, process for creating a team / app, automating creation process)

• Vision: THE place you go first when you are looking for a DoD software solution, looking for a way to contribute to your favorite project, or generally interested in what might be available to you.
