Who We Are

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is the primary scientific research and development center for the Air Force. AFRL plays an integral role in leading the discovery, development and integration of affordable warfighting technologies for our air, space and cyberspace force.

WeaponONE is a digital transformation and modernization effort to apply the latest technologies to speed delivery of infrastructure, tools and data across the enterprise. The W1 digital, agile, and open ecosystem baselines a gov’t owned tech stack of cloud-based engineering and lifecycle management tools, DevSecOps software factory, data management strategy and a weapon specific Gov’t Reference Architecture (GRA) that enables rapid generation of flexible combat power through continuous integration/delivery of networked, collaborative, autonomous science and technology.

Technology Challenges:

Integrate/Interpolate sharing work products government-to-government and government-to-industry
Develop and operate a government owned tech stack to support digital engineering and MS&A
Deploying hybrid multi-cloud environment at multiple levels of security
Modernization & training of workforce with state-of-the-art MBE tools improving access to test and evaluation data required to build tail-number, high-fidelity digital twins
