Opened !3206 (merged) since I had too many suggestions. Think maybe a middle ground is best. I don't think we need a whole new file to point to describing the whole process. Other vendor repos just have several paragraphs so we can follow that simplistic way of doing things and notating the differences and what to expect.

Other sections above may need re-wording as well or maybe higher up saying something like "If you're coming from Github then jump down here"
