Hey @danny-radiusmethod we can maybe adjust the config so that extra portions mentioning /var/log can more easily be emptied out but we got a request in the past for explicitly adding /var/log

If you don't want or need that you can just set

extraVolumes:
  - name: machine-id
    hostPath:
      path: /etc/machine-id

# Extra volume mounts together. Corresponds to `extraVolumes`.
extraVolumeMounts:
  - name: machine-id
    mountPath: /etc/machine-id
    readOnly: true

Though moving machine-id to default* mounts instead of extra would make this easier
